Consumers spent a combined extra €46.2m year-on-year in July on suncare, smoothies, ice cream, pickles, soft drinks, antipasti and fresh fruit.

Irish grocery price inflation in the 12 weeks to July 13 stood at 5.4%, up slightly compared to last month, with the warm summer weather prompting consumers to spend more on summer essentials.

According to data from Worldpanel by Numerator, a market research firm, grocery price inflation was up from the 5.3% recorded last month.
