Anthony Daly: 'If this isn’t Cork’s time, when is it?' — Pressure rises as Tipp lie in wait

For some reason, I’ve found myself thinking a lot about 1993 this week. That was a significant year for myself personally, and the Clare team. We reached our first Munster final. It was my first big day out as a captain. The whole experience turned into a total disaster because we were routed by Tipperary, but that’s not what has been on my mind. What has been is Tipp’s next game in that 1993 championship.
Tipp looked so untouchable after that Munster final that they were immediately installed as hot favourites for the All-Ireland. I remember talking to Len Gaynor, the former Tipp player who was our manager at the time, and he telling me that he’d been to watch Tipp train before the All-Ireland semi-final against Galway. Gaynor said that he’d never seen a team as sharp. Tipp were nearly making the ball talk. The general belief was that Galway wouldn’t keep it pucked out to them.
