Éamonn Fitzmaurice: Kerry may need the energy of anger to counter dangerous mood swing

LOSING an All-Ireland semi-final is awful. That season-ending finality is stark with no training session to attend or plan for next Tuesday. At least by getting to the final, a group has taken the season as far as it can go. Lose this weekend and the realisation of how hard it is to get back there dawns pretty quickly. That and how far away the start of redemption is, as a ball won’t be kicked in anger with a county team until the end of January 2026.
All four Sam Maguire semi-finalists will be planning ahead, with arrangements in place for next week already. Naturally the players will be completely oblivious to this background work. Training days will be laid out. The button will be pressed on all of the ancillary bits and pieces that goes with being in an All-Ireland final either Saturday or Sunday evening, if the result is right. Suits, press day, tickets, fundraisers, hotels and the rest.
