Richard Satchwell sat almost motionless for much of this week’s murder trial as bizarre details about trying to buy monkeys, missing money, and a parrot autopsy were read to the court.

His head was bent so deeply forward, resting in his hand, that his expression was largely inscrutable as hours of media interviews were played in which he had appealed to his wife Tina to “come home”, sometimes through tears, all the time knowing that she was wrapped in plastic and buried in a shallow grave under a stairwell in their Youghal, Co Cork, home.
